Why do Teeth Get Yellow?

In order to figure out the best methods to whiten our teeth, it is better to know the reason for yellowing of teeth. Some of the factors that play crucial role include genetics, food and drinks consumed along with the level of practicing oral hygiene. A tooth is made up of 4 tissues:

  • Enamel, which is a strong white covering that protects the tooth
  • Dentin, which supports the enamel and carries nerves
  • Pulp, which is the center of tooth and contains blood and lymph vessels
  • Cementum, which covers the root of the tooth
The enamel and dentin play the biggest role in color. Nasty food items and drinks actually lead breaking down the enamel hence weakening it. As the enamel breaks down, the yellow dentin underneath is revealed. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

One needs to mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice in order to prepare a paste. The teeth must be wiped properly with the help of a paper towel to remove extra saliva. A good amount of paste must be put onto the toothbrush and applied. After one minute the mouth must be rinsed to avoid acid effecting enamel.
